MTW says:
How did you first get into wrestling?
Drummk says:
A friend of mine and her little brother used to watch it. They got me to watch in early 2000, and I got caught up in the HHH / Jack storyline.
MTW says:
What did you think of it back then?
Drummk says:
It was a lot more "younger audience based", in my estimation. Matches were shorter, and you had skits like the Mae Young hand pregnancy.
Drummk says:
Fun, but not really wrestling as such.
MTW says:
Is WWE the only company you have followed?
Drummk says:
I watched wCw on channel 5 when I got time on Fridays in 2000. I've read the recaps of TNA from the start, and I try to catch it whenever it's on the wrestling channel.
MTW says:
Are you still enthusiastic about the sport today?
Drummk says:
I still like wrestling, but I don't watch tv as much. Whenever I do watch RAW I inevitably enjoy it, so I suppose I'm part of the loyal core audience that'll never really tune out.
Drummk says:
Apart from in 2002, I've never really picked up on a drastic change in quality.
MTW says:
Whats your opinion of the current state of Smackdown?
Drummk says:
Well, I liked last night's ppv. The matches have been fairly good. I don't like the antics with Booker T and his black magic much, and Kurt Angle doesn't interest me as a non-wrestler. I'm not a Cena fan either. All in all, things can still get a lot worse and I'll still watch. It's not like Saturday mornings have a lot else to watch.
MTW says:
You're a member of the wrestling classics message board. Are you interested in wrestling history?
Drummk says:
I liked to talk about the late eighties and early nineties, because I didn't see any one it in person. I would have liked to have been around for Flair, Hart, HBK v. 1 and vintage Foley.
Drummk says:
However, I'm not really interested in Gotch / Bockwinkel / etc. Too mat based.
MTW says:
Okay, moving away from wrestling now. What do you do for a living?
Drummk says:
I'm a first year student in politics at Edinburgh University. I've just finished working (part time) in the cafeteria at my halls of residence, and I'm trying to get a job for the summer, preferably in my local library.
MTW says:
What are you looking to do at the end of the course then?
Drummk says:
I'm thinking about joining the police, because it's a lot more interesting than being a civil servant.
Drummk says:
Plus, the pension plan rocks. It's never too early to start planning for your old age, you know.
MTW says:
Of course it isn't. What do you like to do for fun?
Drummk says:
Fun is for hippies.
Drummk says:
When I recreate, I like to read, write, post on Smash and produce short films.
MTW says:
Ah yes, the films. Assault on the spiders web was rated ***** by me even though I needed to ask you what the hell it was called again. For those that dont know explain to us this epic series.
Drummk says:
The idea was conceived when we were climbing on the "spider's web" (a big net in a pyramid shape) in our local park.
Drummk says:
We being some friends from school and I.
Drummk says:
We decided that, as two of us had digital cameras, we should commit our exploits to film.
Drummk says:
As the series continued, it went from a simple hostage rescue to a sort of twisted star wars / terminator parody.
Drummk says:
Basically they are humorous action films. There's no imagery or metaphors, just action sequences and hard rock soundtracks.
MTW says:
I thought the acting in the films were carried by that Kyle Drummond (sp?) fellow. Such a commanding presence
Drummk says:
Being both lanky and somewhat menacing looking, I tend to take a side role as an inept henchman who inevitably meets his demise after an incompetent decision.
Drummk says:
My repetoire of lines includes "Aha!", "Haha!" and "I'm pure wasted!"
Drummk says:
The latter was for our "NEDZ" documentary that was, alas, never completed.
MTW says:
Okay, moving on to the smash questions now. How did you come to find Smash?
Drummk says:
Smash member Meanie introduced me to the Guru section in early 2002.
Drummk says:
A while after that, Smash closed down for some reason.
Drummk says:
When it came back, I read the columns on the main page for a while, and then finally submitted a column entitled "In Defence Of Billy Gunn" in response to one of Tony Cottam's diatribes against the Assman.
Drummk says:
I joined the forums after a while because other writers often referenced the various goings-on.
Drummk says:
Sadly, the column writing has stopped. I'm waiting for Smash Life to see if I can help with that in any way, because I don't think I've got anything to say about wrestling that others can't say just as well. Frankly, I don't think my opinions are original enough to warrant their own soapbox.
MTW says:
Do you feel Smash has changed a lot since you first joined?
Drummk says:
I think so. I'd like to say that things are better, but I don't think I can. A lot of the members who were around long before me have stopped posting, and that has hurt the quality a lot. A lot of people don't enjoy modern wrestling, which hurts the WWE and Indies zones. Finally, MALENKOmark and a few other banned guys - Bollywood, for example - made Smash exciting.
Drummk says:
I appreciate that the mods need to keep control and maintain order, but people like spirited debate and confrontations. Unless someone is actively hurting the forums - by trolling or spamming - they shouldn't be banned. We need passionate posters to create a bit of tension. People like reading arguments, which is why the asylum is so popular. There's been too many spurious bannings for my liking.
MTW says:
So you feel the moderators are too strict?
Drummk says:
I think the mods should limit themselves to technical stuff like spoilers, spam, images and stuff in the wrong zones. I don't think there should be any real censorship simply because people are being insulted - racism isn't acceptable, but otherwise content should be unsupervised. I don't think aiming for a "family friendly" image is what Smash needs as this precise time.
MTW says:
Whats been some of your favourite memories on smash?
Drummk says:
Feuds, funnily enough. MALENKOmark versus the world, the Stable Wars, in which I'm proud to say a small part. Stuff like Dis-x, MTank's occasional hilarious streams of conciousness, Fonzgate - all interesting. In the WWE zone, the HHH threads inspired some good debating from both sides.
Drummk says:
Sorry, played a small part in Stable Wars.
MTW says:
Whats your favourite Smash Controversy?
Drummk says:
The aftermath tends to be bad - Malenkomark getting banned, Clarkey quitting as moderator, Rock88 turning into a complete nuisance. Once again, I think a bit of questionable / heavy handed moderating was to blame in some cases.
MTW says:
What was your favourite Rock88 gimmick?
Drummk says:
Big Black Guy Named Ben.
Drummk says:
Subterfuge at it's finest, as it fooled Shane for a few days.
Drummk says:
sorry, that was a question mark in brackets.
Drummk says:
( ? )
MTW says:
Out of all the banned losers, who was your personal favourite?
Drummk says:
MLENKOmark.
Drummk says:
*MALENKOmark
Drummk says:
Sometimes I sound like a groupie, but I honestly thought he was an excellent poster. Without him around the TNA zone has floundered rather than flourished, and who didn't enjoy rants such as "Whatever, yo"? He seemed to love wrestling, and was the sort of character that made Smash such a fun place.
Drummk says:
I quite liked Bollywood, but he was pretty dismal, had Michaels watching his back all the time, and playing the race card on an anonymous forum is just... bizarre.
MTW says:
If the LG Hooker Curse could claim one member of Smash of your choice, who would it be and why?
Drummk says:
There's no one I really want to see leave. I'd rather bring half a dozen people back.
Drummk says:
Fonz was getting really annoying up until his departure, but he seems to have turned over a new leaf. He's stopped spamming and attacking people in every post, and can be a good poster if he trys. He was probably my favourite poster in 2002, before teaching jaded him.
MTW says:
What did you make of the whole Clarkey leaving/Fonz leaving then coming back stuff from a few weeks ago?
Drummk says:
Would Clarkey have quit if he was still a moderator? And if not, why wasn't he still a moderator? It's a bad sign in any event when quality posters like Clarkey leave.
Drummk says:
Fonz's return didn't bother me a lot. I thought Fonz was the one who ended up looking foolish, as a lot of people predicted he would be back by Wednesday and he returned a day before that. It didn't reflect well on Inno, but I guess he has to do whatever he can to keep Smash running smoothly.
MTW says:
Well thats almost it. All thats left is the obligatory name game. We're all familiar with the rules and to be honest I cant be bothered explaining them. So with that, Drummk, are you ready?
Drummk says:
Shoot.
MTW says:
IamStevie
Drummk says:
Hmm. He's pleasant and inoffensive, but his rambling about "K", not to mention his habit of using "da" all the time, grates after a while. Drop the gimmick.
MTW says:
Smoke Daddy
Drummk says:
He doesn't post a lot anymore. I thought his poll about whether his name was gay was funny.
MTW says:
Bradshaw101
Drummk says:
Great poster; contributes a lot to the wrestling zone and to the general ethos of the forums.
MTW says:
Penguin of Doom
Drummk says:
I've never had a great deal to do with him, but he seems amiable enough.
MTW says:
Raw is Jericho
Drummk says:
Good poster, but I don't really relate to him because I'm not a football fan.
MTW says:
Shane McMahon
Drummk says:
Fantastically funny. Every post is tongue in cheek and perceptive. He tends to have everything figured out.
MTW says:
Edgerulez
Drummk says:
I don't mind EdgeRulez, but I'm not really sure why he is a moderator ahead of some other equally tenured posters.
MTW says:
thefonz
Drummk says:
On a good day, he's funny and willing to poke fun at himself. On a bad day, he's juvenile and self-important. I think the rules are often bent for him - he brought in Exorbalis to back him up in arguments, which is exactly what Andy Holland was banned for.
MTW says:
Inno
Drummk says:
The Boss. I have a lot of respect for him, and he knows more about wrestling than I'll ever forget. Over the last year or so he seems to have made a few questionable decisions as Admin, though, which are never really justified in public.
MTW says:
Malenkomark
Drummk says:
Great guy, very passionate about wrestling. He never saw eye to eye with EdgeRulez, which got him banned.
MTW says:
Mick Foley
Drummk says:
The wrestler?
MTW says:
Yes
Drummk says:
Hmm. I've only seen Foley matches from 1996 onwards, and I've never been very impressed. I hate when people call HIAC a great match because of the bumps - does that make Owen / Godfather an all time classic? I know that's insensitive but I hate garbage wrestling and risky highspots. I also thought after reading his book that he came across as very greedy.
MTW says:
And finally... Meanie
Drummk says:
He's a great friend in "real life". He should post more often on Smash, as he has a lot to contribute. Pity about the spelling and grammar, though.
MTW says:
Okay, thanks to Drummk for taking the time. Its been very interesting.
Drummk says:
Hope so..
