MTW says:
Okay, How did you first get into wrestling?
Hector says:
Well, when I was a young un I always watched Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks et al on World of Sport, I loved it and wish I was back to the days of thinking it was real
Hector says:
Then, I fell away from it but got back into it in 1998 with the whole Mike Tyson thing. My friend Ross told me Tyson was involved and why didn't I go round to his to watch it.
Hector says:
Anyway, there were loads of them there and, at first I was the annoying guy that taunted them by saying "this is fake" etc but, I saw their enthusiasm for it and thought it looked good fun - so I just got into it again from there
MTW says:
Is WWE the only company you have followed?
Hector says:
Well, apart from "dodgy seaside promotions r us" or whoever ran the world of sport operation, then yeah, I never had the time or the inclination to get into other things as much
MTW says:
Are you still enthusuastic about WWE today?
Hector says:
This is reading exactly the same as all the interviews (sorry!) but no! I loved the whole "Attitude" era and the sheer political incorrectness of it all back then. I actually preferred the interviews, promos and backstage goings-on to the actual matches and now the whole WWE product seems a lot more subdued. I barely ever watch it anymore, I always mean to but I always end up flicking....
Hector says:
over to Jonathan Ross (he rocks by the way)
MTW says:
From Jim to Jonathan then. Okay, away from the wrestling questions then. What do you do for a living?
Hector says:
Oh, I work in the teaching profession. As a teacher funnily enough
MTW says:
And what do you teach?
Hector says:
Well, primarily I am a teacher of pupils (there's the college jargon coming back) but, the subject I teach is Geography, apparently the nerdiest of them all
MTW says:
Yes, that is correct. Do you enjoy it?
Hector says:
Well, when I have a good and attentive class then it is the best job in the world in my opinion. Seeing the kids learning or just giving some of them a bit of enjoyment when they usually hate school is a great feeling.
Hector says:
On the other hand certain classes - nightmare stuff. I had one the other day and an hour has never passed so slowly in my entire life - then it is not the best job.
MTW says:
You're a big old firm fan. Is it fair to say you'd follow the two Glasgow teams to the depths of hell and back again?
Hector says:
Oh yeah, I love to see the 2 of them succeeding at every possible opportunity - they are so good for Scottish football /irony - you don't like them much either I would imagine
MTW says:
Well, celtic yeah. But Dundee United rip the piss out of Rangers these days so im not so bothered about them. So Morton didn't get promoted. Gutted much?
Hector says:
Well, yes and no. We did have a 14 point cushion ahead of 3rd place so it was the biggest bottle job ever. However, the final few weeks of the season were marred by a betting scandal involving the players - which I NEVER believed. The news from the club that there was nothing shady going on and the players were just kack was a nice note to go out on
Hector says:
And anyway, we can just go up next year, I fear we would have been hung out to dry if we went up this season, so, all in all I am slightly disappointed, but philosophical about the whole thing
MTW says:
What do you like to do for fun?
Hector says:
Well, I like to go out and have a few drinks with friends and I like to go round to friends' houses and visit them, or have them round here. Just hanging out and chatting is a great tonic at the end of a hard day. Obviously there is watching tv too much as well but I am trying to wean myself off that.
MTW says:
You spent a year in Australia at one point didn't you? What was that like?
Hector says:
Oh, it was a ripper mate
Hector says:
Best year of my life. I went out for the Olympic Games with the intention of only statying 4 or 5 weeks but I was amazed at the lifestyle and friendliness of the people over there
Hector says:
I could go out on my own for a drink and by the end of the night I would have made 4 or 5 new friends, it's a totally different culture down there.
Hector says:
Also loved meeting up with distant family down there - foreign travel is really the best thing a person can do (and it was easier to meet girls down there as well - but that is just a side issue!)
MTW says:
Any plans to ever do it again?
Hector says:
well, I am planning right now to go to new zealand come January or February (plans still at the very tentative stage) and this would definitely involve a month or 2 in Sydney - which is the best city in the world in my opinion
MTW says:
Aside from Glasgow and Dundee of course?
Hector says:
Well, that goes without saying of course. Hey, my friend is going to Dundee for the weekend this weekend - seemed a funny one to me
MTW says:
Poor bastard. Right then, on to the smash questions. How did you come to find smash?
Hector says:
Again, sorry for the repetition of answers, but I think it was on the Smashwrestling show. But, I am not totally sure though - how's that for a twist!
Hector says:
crap i hear you say
MTW says:
Woah - you heard that? Explain to us your user name.
Hector says:
well, it is a bit bland, I have considered changing it many a time but, there are a few old Morton songs sung by a guy called Hector Nichol (I know, I have spelled the damn thing wrong) anyway, these tunes are old traditional Scottish tunes played on the accordian hence my poor choice of username. But, there you go.
MTW says:
Do you feel Smash has changed a lot since you first joined?
Hector says:
Well, everyone else seems to think so but I don't think it has. I'm not even sure how long I have been a member but, I guess any changes have just been so gradual that I have failed to notice them. Evolution and all that stuff, eh?
MTW says:
Whats been some of your favourite memories?
Hector says:
Well, nothing really stands out. I liked the whole fonzgate thing at first, I was adamant it was a set-up having met the guy before. Then I interjected with a wee comment and was roundly insulted by the guy and that made me wonder a bit! I enjoy old classic threads like the one about fancying your cousin, so imappropriate yet so funny as well. I also enjoy all the feuds that are....
Hector says:
about with fonz v the new boy being a particular favourite of mine
MTW says:
Whats your favourite Smash Controversy?
Hector says:
I liked when Clarkey resigned as a Mod, that was pretty cool, well, not for him I guess. I also liked when the donation system first came in and some people didn't like the fact that money got you certain things
Hector says:
I also like it when banned members try and come back, I like to point and laugh (shannon_moore)
MTW says:
Out of all the banned losers, who was your personal favourite?
Hector says:
none of them really. I am just trying to jog my memory here, people speak fondly of Malenkomark and Rock88 but I never paid much attention to them, mainly due to the fact I barely used the same forums they did. I will always have a soft spot for Shannon_Moore though, your fellow United fan, I never did believe a word that guy said
MTW says:
If the LG Hooker Curse could claim one member of Smash of your choice, who would it be and why?
Hector says:
Well, I am going to go for someone who barely posts anymore (sorry) and ask for the new boy. he really stuck the boot into thefonz when he (and I) were going through a tough time teaching. Instead of offering a bit of support of friendly words he was a bit boastful of how well he was doing thus leaving me feel a bit umm, down I guess
MTW says:
What did you make of the whole Clarkey leaving/Fonz leaving then coming back stuff from a few weeks ago?
Hector says:
I think it is fair enough. Clarkey bowed out quietly which was fair enough on his behalf (although he could just have stopped posting), hey, barthez has just been sent off.
MTW says:
concentrate hector
Hector says:
and thefonz leaving and coming back was fair enough as well. I think most of us knew he would come back at some point but I was slightly disappointed it happened so soon. But, it was nice to have him back, he is an integral part of the boards as can be seen by the number of times he features in people's answers in these interviews.
MTW says:
You've attended a few Glasgow gets Smashed events. What was it like meeting some of the members for the first time? Then of course, getting pissed with them?
Hector says:
Well, the first one was a bit nerve wracking and I only met Anthony and thefonz that day.
Hector says:
the second one was a bit of a damp squib, but i met b.o.d. for the 1st time there
Hector says:
the 3rd one I should have went to but was way-laid elsewhere in Glasgow's fine selection of licensed premises
Hector says:
and the 4th one was amazingly and surprisingly fun. It was great to meet Inno, just as funny in "real life" as he is on here and his partner Gill was pretty great as well. The 4th one ranks up there as one of my best nights out of the year so far (no photies of me though please!!!)
Hector says:
you should come to the next one for sure, you know you want to!
MTW says:
Lol. Yes, well, we'll see. Whats your opinions on the moderators here on Smash?
Hector says:
I like them all, they put up with some amount of crap from some people but they deal with it all very well. Firm but fair I think we could say. They all bring certain qualities to the forums as general members as well, all in all they are all parts of a well oiled machine and, if one of them failed the machine would not operate as efficiently (sorry, I heard that in a seminar earlier and......
Hector says:
had to squeeze it in.
MTW says:
So you're saying if Rooq broke down, Doug would fall over?
Hector says:
well, that paints a confused picture in my mind, but yeah, someone would at least trip up - i think
MTW says:
Im no good at metaphors. Okay, we're nearly finished. All thats left is the name game. Everyone knows the rules, so Hector - are you ready?
Hector says:
READY
MTW says:
Anthony
Hector says:
nice guy, stayed out till the bitter end of the last night out and we had a good few aftershocks together. Good socialist beliefs as well, a good attitude to others
MTW says:
Drummk
Hector says:
I like this guy too. Very knowledgeable on current affairs and politics. Another who should come to our next night out - if he wants to.
MTW says:
Rock Bottom
Hector says:
A near neighbour of mine, good maryhill boy, works in woolies though, we can't all be perfect!
MTW says:
Thefonz
Hector says:
An enigma. Thoroughly nice guy, should definitely have a bit more confidence in himself with women etc. This boy will go far in whatever field he eventually ends up working in
MTW says:
The Man
Hector says:
Cracking sense of humour - very dry. I always read a post if he is the "last poster" because he occasionally comes up with a comedy classic, just wish he could do it more often
MTW says:
Rooq
Hector says:
Another funny guy. Often falsely accused of being gay (I know the feeling!) but he has a fantastic turn of phrase and does well at taking the heat out of certain situations where he is needed as a mod. And any guy who also highlights his hair is ok by me!
MTW says:
The Godfather
Hector says:
Well, at first he annoyed me with his straight edge stuff. I thought he was preaching at us all who drank etc but, then I took a bit more time to think about it and read his posts and he was not preachy at all. I find it hilarious that he gets upset so often on buses.
MTW says:
Raw is Jericho
Hector says:
Really valuable member of Smash. I seem to have quite a lot in common with him. Can get a bit too worked up over his football (it's only a game man) but I like his impassioned defences of Leeds and he is also a great fan of talksport, which I also am
Hector says:
sorry, too many alsos there
MTW says:
Shane McMahon
Hector says:
Very good sense of humour from him lately, I think he must have a new joke writer there(just kidding). I am intruiged by his trailer stuff he has going right now
MTW says:
Big Dave
Hector says:
Nice big guy, straight to the point, no messing about with him. Another valuable member of the sport forum
MTW says:
Shannon Moore
Hector says:
apparently he is somewhere in Australia now. I actually can't remember why I disliked him. I wouldn't mind hearing from him for one day to see how he is getting on just out of interest.
MTW says:
Inno
Hector says:
top man, I could sit and talk to that guy all day. Fantastic sense of humour, great family guy, great set of values, great fun and, as I have mentioned before, Gill is pretty great too (although not as good on the horses as I am!)
MTW says:
Brother of Destruction
Hector says:
good, glad you asked about him
Hector says:
comes to a few Morton games trying to be all friendly but it doesn't wash
Hector says:
kidding!
Hector says:
doug is a great big guy as well
Hector says:
really into his football and really into his "socialising"
Hector says:
another guy I could sit and talk to all day, drinks amazingly quickly and manages to maintain the ability to stand up. A smash legen for requesting "Build Me Up Buttercup" in the Solid Rock
Hector says:
He is a bit of a jinx on Morton though, both times he came to see us this season we have been thoroughly thrashed and haven't scored
MTW says:
And finally... The Old Firm
Hector says:
Ahhhh, the scourge of Scottish football, the reason Scotland suck so badly right now. Bring back the days when Aberdeen won European trophies and Scotland qualified for World Cups now and again and Dundee United managed to beat Barcelona home and away (that ones for you mtw)
MTW says:
Yes bring back those days. And on that note, thanks to Hector for taking the time to do this. Its been great.
Hector says:
no bother, it was fun actually. thanks for taking the time to do it.
